🇰🇭 Standing for Peace and Justice: A Personal Reflection on the Cambodia - Thailand Tensions

By Alex Evengroen
Solution Strategist and Longtime Resident of Cambodia

For the past fifteen years, I have lived, worked, invested in, and contributed to the growth of beautiful Cambodia—a country I proudly call my second home. In that time, I have come to deeply admire the Cambodian people for their honesty, resilience, kindness, and unwavering dedication to building a better future.

It truly pains me to witness the current escalation of tensions between Cambodia and Thailand—two nations with rich cultures, intertwined histories, and shared regional interests. This conflict does not reflect the values of the people on either side of the border. It must be resolved not through force or intimidation, but through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect.

Cambodia, like any sovereign nation, deserves fairness. I stand firmly with its people and leadership during this critical time.

🏛️ The Legal Reality

Let us not forget: In 1962, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled decisively that the sacred Preah Vihear Temple belongs to Cambodia. That ruling was reaffirmed in 2013, further confirming Cambodian sovereignty over the surrounding land.

Despite these clear international legal decisions, border tensions persist. Cambodia has once again approached the ICJ seeking peaceful clarification. Thailand, however, has rejected the court’s jurisdiction and instead prefers bilateral talks. Meanwhile, violence—particularly in the Chong Bok region—has only deepened the crisis.

🕊️ A Call for Peaceful Leadership

I greatly respect and support the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet and former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, both of whom are working tirelessly to restore peace through diplomatic channels. Their commitment to stability, dialogue, and long-term peace deserves international recognition and encouragement.

As someone who has worked closely with government entities and communities, and as a solution strategist, I remain ready to assist—in any way, shape, or form—to help rebuild peace, understanding, and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand.

ðŸšŦ Reject False Narratives

I urge the international media, diplomats, and the global public to exercise wisdom and not fall prey to misinformation or false provocations. This is not the time for division. It is the time for solidarity, truth, and forward-thinking solutions.

To the Cambodian people:
I stand with you—always.
With all my heart, my skills, and my voice, I will continue to support your path to peace, dignity, and rightful sovereignty.
